Our Prayer Blanket Ministry began in the Parish in 2007 when our daughter had breast cancer. We ordered a blanket from Blessed Trinity Parish and sent it to her in the hope that she would be comforted by the prayers of the people of Blessed Trinity. It meant so much to her that we decided to approach our Pastor to get it started here.

From there it has been a joyous time within our parish. We offer Blankets for prayer every weekend for our parishioners and every third week we prepare four blankets for St Vincent’s Critical Care unit and four blankets for the High Risk Breast Cancer Unit.

The blankets are for anyone who needs an extra prayer. The prayers are offered for those who are sick, of course, as well as those who have lost a loved one, contemplating a job change, the birth of a child, or any facet of life that prayers by their parish family would bring peace. The Ministry makes lap-sized blankets and prayers are offered at all the masses on the weekend to bring God’s Spirit to fill each prayer blanket with His love, His healing and His power. The blanket acts as a symbol of those prayers to bring new life, new hope, and joy to those who receive it. Many caring individuals commit to prayer and help with the making of the blankets.

God has used this beautiful ministry to touch the lives of countless people who have received the blankets while enduring a challenging time in their lives. These prayer blankets have brought relief to the suffering and peace to the fearful. As recipients use the blanket, they know that they are not alone, that there are those who care about them and are praying for them.

This beautiful act of sacrifice before the Lord truly transforms this blanket into a prayer blanket . It’s very threads become interwoven with the pleas on behalf of the recipient.
